The Enablers: Chambers Support Staff

160 Fleet Street Chambers has people whose job is to help you engage the services of a barrister.

These enablers are the ones who answer the phone, explain how things work and run our chambers. They give quotations and sort out dates, bookings and fees. They issue the documents stating what work has been agreed between you the client and your barrister (in a document known as a Client Care Letter).

The responsibility for the legal work itself is the direct the responsibility of the barrister but the staff in chambers are there to help with the smooth running in various ways.

For those of you who have not heard of the term ‘chambers’ before, this is what barristers call the offices from which they practice. Those chambers must be registered with the barrister’s governing bodies to be officially defined as a Barrister’s Chambers. 160 Fleet Street Chambers is just such an officially registered chambers.

Mike Watts has been a Chambers Director in support of barristers in central London since 2011. Mike comes from a marketing and communication background. He sees it as his mission to demystify the process of using a barrister and to make it simple – leading to (we all hope) a rapid path to success.

Mike is easy to talk to and he has been working with Direct Public Access clients since 2010, so he knows what questions to ask and exactly what can and cannot be done. Mike has built up a good working relationship with the Head of 160 Fleet Street Chambers, barrister Mr Abu Sufian over five years and travelled with him from their previous chambers.
